Station Control

S&C offers engineering, design, integration, testing, and commissioning for complete turnkey station control systems, including motor-driven, reciprocating engine-driven, and turbine-driven compressors; auxiliary systems; process measurement displays; system alarms; and all other necessary features.

The primary goal of the station control system is to maintain the controlled variable(s) at their set point(s). Typically, the primary variable is one of the following:

  • Station discharge pressure
  • Station suction pressure
  • Station compression ratio
  • Station gas flow rate

For stations with multiple units—whether in series, parallel, or a combination—algorithms determine load sharing for efficient and stable control. Additional control and limiting loops can also be incorporated into the system.

The station control system can be interfaced with S&C’s OptiRamp® Advanced Dispatch Control System (ADCS) to save energy, maximize throughput, and fulfill other operating objectives. OptiRamp is a statistical model that identifies real-time efficiencies through multidimensional analysis to determine optimal load-sharing and operating scenarios. The resulting start-up/ shutdown commands and control set points can be displayed on HMIs as advice for manual entry or can be automatically used in closed-loop control.
