Gas Turbine Control
Controlling gas turbines in accordance with manufacturer specifications and customer best practices is critical for safe and effective operation. S&C specializes in engineering solutions to satisfy any control regimen for all major control system platforms.
S&C’s gas turbine controller includes multiple PID loops to accurately position the fuel control valve, guide vanes, and/or nozzles to maintain the requested power turbine speed set point based on the following variables:
- High-pressure shaft speed
- Low-pressure shaft speed
- Exhaust gas temperature
- Compressor discharge pressure
- Power turbine speed
- Fuel control valve min/max position
- Acceleration/deceleration limits
Additional control loops can be configured with S&C’s PID multi-loop module.
Multiple speed sensor inputs can be used to generate a single value for error term calculation in order to ensure safe, reliable, and accurate operation within tolerances.
S&C typically integrates the solution into the total train control system, eliminating the need for a dedicated fuel control processor, rack, and power supply. This approach results in increased train control system availability and reliability as well as reduced system costs.
