Dynamic Study

Determining the benefits of control automation upgrades and other process equipment changes can involve a large degree of guesswork and comparisons to similar applications. Unfortunately, each process often has unique attributes and dynamics, so the specific performance is not truly known until after purchasing and commissioning.

S&C can help you zero in on the true economics of process changes prior to committing to the investment. OptiRamp enables comprehensive process modeling and simulation for virtual operation and dynamic study. This powerful tool can also be used to determine process dynamics for equipment selection and sizing.

The steps of a dynamic study are straightforward and simple:

  1. S&C engineers will meet with you to determine your objectives.
  2. Specific process information from P&IDs and other process diagrams, manufacturer specific data, energy producer and consumer information, and I/O lists is gathered.
  3. S&C configures the model of process elements and their mathematical relationships. Many elements specific to S&C applications already exist in the OptiRamp library.
  4. Either historical or real-time process data (or both) are used to refine the mathematical relationships between the process elements.

The OptiRamp simulator is then used to operate your process in a virtual environment. Control variables, alternative feed stocks, production rates, and ambient conditions can be changed to observe performance. Different control strategies and modeling elements (process equipment, piping networks, or electrical networks) can be changed to study reaction, throughput, efficiency, and economy. Most significantly, S&C can demonstrate and quantify the economic benefit of installing OptiRamp to optimize your process for production efficiency.
